Toxic Affects On Aging (1)

I know I may sound a little bit like chicken little, but…what I want more than anything is to teach people about the number of toxins in their homes right now.  And to share that I have the answer to educate those who are interested in providing safe products around their homes and families.  None of us is getting younger (I happen to know that for a FACT!) and the hazards of household toxins can reap misery on a family. Some toxins are just irritating allergens, but many have long term or fatal health risks.

Homeowners assume that if a product is on the grocery store shelf or in the neighborhood dollar store, then it is bound to be safe. Unfortunately, that just isn’t the case. The government has not required chemical manufacturers to list many of the most harmful ingredients in household products.

There has also been a serious void when it comes to understanding the impact of the ingredients. Without private research regarding chemical reactions and hazards of household toxins, consumers would still assume their products are safe.

It is amazing to note that chemicals have replaced bacteria and viruses as the main threat to health. The diseases we are beginning to see as the major causes of death in the latter part of (the 1900’s) and into the 21st century are diseases of chemical origin.  [Dr. Dick Irwin, Toxicologist, Texas A&M University]

Some products release contaminants into the air right away, others do so gradually over a period of time. Some stay in the air up to a year. These contaminants, found in many household and personal care products can cause dizziness, nausea, allergic reactions, eye/skin/respiratory tract irritations and some cause cancer. [American Lung Association]

This is a process that goes on inside our cupboards, laundry rooms and anywhere we store cleaning & other household products – the process is called “out-gassing” where the chemicals in the containers seep out through the containers.

According to the EPA “health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later…health effects may show up either years after exposure has occurred or only after long or repeated periods of exposure. These effects, which include some respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer, can be severely debilitating or fatal. It is prudent to try to improve the indoor air quality in your home even if symptoms are not noticeable.”

I sincerely hope that in following this blog I not only show you what is happening to us but also how to make a change, one home at a time! Please contact me at for more information on a safer way to live!
